The Philippine Ambulatory Pediatric Association (PAPA) convened last February 16, 2011 at the National Institutes of Health, Manila a group of representatives from various medical organizations to discuss the formation of a coalition to address tobacco control and reduce exposure to second hand tobacco smoke.  Led by the Chair of PAPA’s Committee for Tobacco Control and Advocacy, Dr. Maria Jocelyn N. Quidlat, and with the presence of Dr. Susan Mercado, Team Leader for Tobacco Free Initiatve of WHO-WPRO and Dr. Anthony Calibo of the Department of Health, the roundtable discussion demonstrated the interest of all the participants to work together as a group. Several of the attendees pledged their commitment to be part of a coalition and to work actively towards the achievement of the goal of the coalition. In addition to Drs. Quidlat and Mercado, other participants included are Dr. Anne Trinidad, representing Philippine Obstetric and Gynecological Soceity, Dr. Irma Makalinao for Philippine Pediatric Soceity, Dr. Gari Astrologio for Philippine Academy of Pediatric Pulmonologist, inc., Dr. Anthony Calibo for DOH, Dr. Irineo C. Bernardo III for Philippine Medical Association, Drs. Alex Alip and Josefina Isidro-Lapena for Philippine Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Romulo De Villa for Philippine Society of Oncologist, Dr. Maricar Limpin for FCTC Alliance Philippines and Philippine College of Chest Physicians, Dr. Divina Abordo for FCTC Alliance Philippines, Drs.
