SCALING UP OF TB IN CHILDREN PROJECT IN THREE LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS OF PAMPANGA AS A MODEL FOR ENCHANCING THE TB IN CHILDREN PROGRAM OF THE NTP

OBJECTIVES:

To develop a TA package for TB in children that includes both

•Demand generation

•Improved service delivery components

Which can be replicated in the other cities and towns of the Province of Pampanga and, eventually, other IMPACT project sites

 

DEMAND GENERATION

1. To conduct public awareness programs such as information dissemination, TB rallies, counseling, communication, and social mobilization activities

2. To conduct training programs for frontline health workers, Community Health Team (CHTs) as well as elementary school teachers and day-care workers

3. To conduct case-finding activities including contact tracing for TB in adults and MDR-TB

 

SERVICE DELIVERY

1. In coordination with the LGU health offices, CHD III, and NTP, conduct training programs for health workers

2. To assist LGUs in crafting policies and ordinances in support of TB in Children programs through training workshops

3. To assist improve case detection, and case holding mechanisms, including that for TB in adults and MDR-TB

4. To assist the LGUs ensure continuous availability of PPD and drugs for TB in children

 

Expected Outputs

1. Facilitate the signing of MOU

2. PAPA will conduct preparatory activities

3. Design and conduct updating training on TB in Children (training needs analysis (TNA), review

existing NTP training designs for TB in children, and enhance the training design

4. Review and enhance the referral, reporting and recording system from community groups to the DOTS centers and PMDT facilities and vice-versa

5. Assist DOTS facilities (RHUs) in demonstration sites increase TB in children case detection through capacity-building activities for public health workers and community volunteers, and ensuring adequate supplies of drugs and other logistics

6. Develop training modules for Department of Education (DepEd) teachers and Department of Social Work and Development (DSWD) workers.

7. Develop age-appropriate TB IEC materials

8. Advocate for the adoption of the NTP protocol by private practitioners

9. Work with the San Fernando Coalition against TB (FERCAT).

10. Develop the framework for strengthening TB in Children

 

Major Activities (February - December 2014)

• Signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

• Field developed and training conducted for health center facilities

• Training module developed and training conducted for DepEd science and clinic teachers, and DSWD personnel

• Referral, reporting and recording system from barangay-level health workers and volunteers to the DOTS centers

• Age-appropriate TB IEC materials

• Organization of Health (TB) Summit (midterm and annual)
